This sandstone wall is from Banteay Srei (Citadel of Women), a richly decorated 10th century Cambodian temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva located in the Angkor Wat temple complex in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Banteay Srei has a central structure surrounded by a moat and an additional 3 enclosures. It was built in hard red sandstone that is adorned in spectacular bas-reliefs and elaborate decorative wall carvings.
Quite a few of the temples at Angkor have been restored and represent the most magnificent site of Khmer architecture including the world's largest single religious monument, the breathtaking Angkor Wat.
Containing some of the finest examples of classical Khmer art, the walls of Banteay Srey are densely covered with some of the most beautiful, deep and intricate carvings of any Angkorian temple.
From the pink sandstone to the ornate design that includes many amazing devatas, it is a dreamy setting and an experience unto itself.
